I’m speaking based on my own experiences.
- Create an online portfolio of your works.
- Prepare your own fanciful name cards printed with your website address.
- Start by giving to your friends/relatives, and people whom might know people from the industry, and of course, potential clients.
- Response might not be immediate, but business will soon come your way. =)

create a blog, upload your designs and share it here, send to all of your friends, and friendster, myspace etc. Internet is a very good medium to advertise your designs and it is quite cheap too.

Make a nice website, put fliers (with the address of your website) in places where your prospective customers gather (assuming they’re women, beauty parlors and so on)
And tell your friends about your designs. if I know anything about women is that if they find a place with nice clothes word gets around faster than the speed of light.
